Coal energizes our communities and the nation. It fuels our economy and powers our homes and businesses. It provides good jobs and an economic future for our families. But radical activists are determined to end coal in Appalachia. They don't care about our jobs, our communities or our future. Without coal, our thriving communities will not survive. Dear Elected Officials, The latest unemployment data is not promising - each month, more Americans lose their jobs and their prospects are bleak. In West Virginia alone, nearly 70,000 people are out of work. Yet EPA continues to stall dozens of coal-mining permits throughout the Appalachian region, putting tens of thousands of jobs - and the financial security of our families - at risk. We are very well aware that EPA is strongly supported by professional activists who view Central Appalachia as the first battlefield in their war against coal. As my elected representative, I urge you to support me. My job depends on you, as do the jobs of countless miners, bankers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, shopkeepers and others who live and work in my community. In this recession, we need you to act. I ask you to do all you can to intervene with the EPA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the White House. Please take action today to ensure a stable and balanced economic and energy policy, and restore certainty and clarity to the mining permit process. Thank you,
